Elon Musk’s Starlink Satellite Internet will come to Tasmania!

If you’ve been struggling with your internet connection in Tasmania for years and are dreaming of fast internet with low latency, you’re going to love what we’re about to tell you.

In April 2021, Starlink (operated by SpaceX), announced that the trial version of its new satellite internet service was going live in parts of NSW, and Victoria.

Fast forward a few months, and the technology was granted approval from the Australian Communication and Media Authority, meaning this highly anticipated service is now available for pre-order in other Australian regions including Tasmania!

Whether you work remotely and need fast internet for your video calls, are a student who needs fast internet to conduct research, or just simply want to relax with some gaming after a long day, the speed of your internet can greatly impact your productivity and leisure.

So, in this post, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about Starlink and how NTVS can help you access this revolutionary new service.

What Is Starlink?

Starlink refers to a program operated by Elon Musks’ SpaceX designed to provide internet users across the globe with low latency broadband internet, including in remote areas. Leveraging its extensive experience in building spacecraft, the company promises a download speed between 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps and latency of around 20ms in most locations around the world for all online activities including high data rate activities such as streaming or online gaming. This means that users should technically not encounter any buffering issues anymore and enjoy almost instantaneous internet in every corner of the planet.

This prowess is enabled by a constellation of low orbit advanced satellites. While there are currently only approximately 1,700 satellites in orbit, Elon Musk is hoping to send over 41,000 additional satellites to space over the next decade. This represents 15 times the number of operational satellites in orbit in 2021.

On average the internet service is currently priced at $139 per month for unlimited data. However, as a user, you will also need to pay a one-time fee of $709 to cover the hardware fees when signing up and an additional $100 to cover the shipping fees.
